linen curtains interior design
hello i'm angela broughton from polesandblind.com i've decided to break my videos up into three sections parts 1 and 2 are actually making the curtains then section 3 will be broken up into the various headings such as pinch pleat, pencil, eyelet. i've made the curtains just a small sample, otherwise it takes too long to work through if you have everything you need to hand
use the biggest table you have and set your ironing board up next to the table to have a decent height to work from and everything to hand and you won't damage the table with the hot iron this a sample curtain the finished width is 25 inches the fabric size is 25 inches plus 6 for the hem and 2 for the turnover at the top
make sure hemline follows the bottom of the pattern because it is more noticeable than the top the pattern at the top will be concealed in the gathers of the curtain take your curtains cut them out, 6 inches below the pattern i always cut the salvage off check first which way the pattern runs this is marked with an up arrow
on the salvage at the top of at the top of the curtain fabric so cut the salvage off fold in by 2 inches iron the fold with steam iron check on sample of fabric first that it is not going to leave water marks - silk
or shrink the fabric - linen you've ironed in your 2 inches then measure up 6 inches from the bottom of the pattern and iron all the way along the hemline you need to check that you follow your pattern exactly then fold half to get 3 inches
which is your hemline you need to cut the lining take about 3 inches off the side of the width of the lining as it will sewn in a bit from the edge of the curtain it's easier to cut it off before you start to get your lining to the right size lay your fabric out on the table if your curtains
are large you will have to measure them on the floor but try and do as much work as you can from the table obviously make sure your floor is clean so make sure everything is ok that's your 2 inch turn this side turn the lining in so that it's right on this side then do the 6 inch turn on bottom of the lining
