>>kirk narbaugh: king and king architectsis the oldest architecture firm in new york, and the third oldest practicing architecturefirm in the nation. we were founded in 1868 by an architect namedarchimedes russell. with a 150 years of history we have thousandsand thousands of projects. one of the signature buildings was crousecollege. it was the original women’s building at syracuse university, and it’s still a beautiful example of architecture from that era. we strategicallyplan for those types of projects that will keep us at the forefront amongstour competition, and so we’re constantly testing the limits for the advantage and successof our projects with our clients.

>>luc lefebvre: we always try to service ourclient very well, so we always try to get the up to date technology. throughoutthe years the process of building information modeling evolved towardsa more of a intelligent design altogether. >>luc: the first step that you need to dois to really establish your goal and what you want to achieve. in order tobe successful with bim is to really establish the vision and to push towards that;and you’re always gonna have some setback, but you always keep going. >>matt finn: we as architects are continuallytaking on more and more complexity, and so bim is something that allows us tomanage that easier.

>>kirk: on our projects, we are looking forusing three-dimensional activities in the bim environment in everything that wedo regardless of the size or scale of the project, so we seek out engineers and consultants whocan support us in that same endeavor. and that includes right down to the technologythat they use and how well they can integrate with how we operate. >>luc: each time i have an opportunity todo a project that really has 3d modeling, i really enjoy that. it goes back to reallypushing the envelope on the design side of things

and sustainability, and combining all of thatand being able to really use technology to give a better design altogether. >>matt: i think great projects are born withreally great clients, and that relationship between architect and client is really importantin the success of the overall project, and so that’s something that we had withthe east syracuse minoa middle school project. >>kirk: the overall concepts of three-dimensionalactivities in the bim environment that we used to coordinate the east syracuse minoaproject was set up perfectly from an envelope standpoint an orientation standpointto take advantage of natural sunlight and energy so that we could downsize the systems, make it energy efficient,

and that’s all an outcome of using bim withvectorworks on a day to day basis. what we do as architects is really facilitatethe entire design process, so the most difficult thing to stay on topof is ‘what’s next.’ and that holds true with the bim environment and then alsowith architectural detailing and the process of architecture, because it’sreally about exploration, understanding the bigger picture, and stretchingthe limits on that to be able to do some really nice environments.
