hi there, i’m designer melissa davis and today i’mat alendel fabrics and i’m going to show you my top five fabric trends —â palettes that is — for 2017.the first one is the pantone color of the year. designers are loving this color because it’s this beautiful, fresh, grass green. it’s winter in canada and we’re dying for something other than grey. so to incorporate this intoyour space, this on its own might be a little bit too jarring, too much for you. but a beautiful idea is to justget a nice print —â something like this where it’s got a bit of that green in and then you can pull this in for cushionsor accents. it’s really lovely and it layers beautifully over the neutrals that most of us have already on oursofas and larger pieces. the next palette is really speaking to that trend towardsorganic, more natural colors, the textures. this one is a mix of sort of these light, kind of beige and creamtones that mix beautifully with natural woods, and then

bringing in these kind of watery tones. it’s a bit of ateal blue, and things are more tactile and soft, a little bit rougher. a lot of these more natural — kindof handcraft feel. something like this can be used on pillows, it’s so beautiful. then a lovely upholstery fabric like this drapery, this is a really beautiful soft palette. the next one is a bit more of the urban mix. it’s the onethat i’m drawn to as a city girl. but the beautiful thing is this year, we’re seeing still the greys, still coolpallets, but what we’re seeing is a little bit more of these kind of…more tactile. again, people want a littlebit more cozy, so we get that in this lovely plaid mix we can do a bit of this herringbone. so the fabricsthemselves are very soft and tactile. so it’s warming up an otherwise very cool palette. this is a beautiful draperyfabric. you could use this in conjunction with some of these softer upholstery weight…it’s a really lovely urban palette.the next trend we’re seeing a ton of this year, across a lot

of the paint manufacturers in particular, are shades ofpurple. purple can be a bit of a tricky color to use ‘cause it’s just so bold and individual. but the tones thatwe’re seeing a lot of are quite lovely and blend well with other kind of neutral palettes you might already have. these sort of eggplant, aubergine tones are really beautiful. this fabric in particular could be a lovely pillow or drapery.we’re also seeing a lot these kind of soft, more lilac tones, which are really beautiful mixed again with some of the greys and things you might already have in your house. so you don’t have to change everything to the trend, butjust layer in a couple of accents that change seasonally. the last palette is a bit more of a traditional look.but we’re seeing a lot of these warm neutrals. it reminds us of aged wood and rough, worn leathers. it’s quite lovelyand very, kind of cozy and inviting. so what we’re doing is mixing a lot of shades of browns, and again, this is a palette where it’s a lot to do with the texture,

as opposed to big, bold prints. it’s really lovely.so as we enter the new year, don’t be afraid to change things up and make this the time that you incorporatesome of these trends that appeal to you. start small… pillows, accent pieces, and then go from there. i promise, it’s not so hard.
