office interior designer montreal
beth levine: i'm beth, and i'msitting in my den in my apartment on the upper eastside of manhattan. we needed to use this room asan office when we're working at home, and also to have someplace for our children to sleep when they do stay here. my husband and i are thrilledwith how the apartment turned out. and it's definitely morethan we could have ever done on our own.
thank god we hired a designer. we definitely had a certain kindof mood and warmth that we wanted in the apartment. when we moved in and this roomwas a blank canvas, i knew i wanted a lot of color. i wanted it to feel totallydifferent than our home in the suburbs. and i definitely wanted a moreexotic feel, but i was probably a little too frightenedto go with this
palette on my own. michelle slovak: beth wasspecifically looking for a designer who could help herwith color and creating a beautiful space for theirpied-a-terre in manhattan. beth levine: any time i lookedat a picture in a magazine that had some orange in it, itdefinitely talked to me. i would have never been ableto choose the right color without michelle. michelle slovak: part of whati do is help people be
comfortable with color andnot be afraid of it. that doesn't mean you have touse really bright colors. it just means having a colorpalette that works for you and the people livingin your space. beth levine: i love the sofa. and it's pretty bold. michelle slovak: the fabric onthe sofa is really exotic. it's an ikat print. beth levine: without a littleguidance, i don't think i
would have had the nerveto order it. coming from a home in thesuburbs where there's a lot more space than in new york,it was much more of a challenge to utilize all thespace as wisely as we could. michelle slovak: i wanted tokeep the room flowing. i didn't want people to have totrip over furniture to get out to the terrace. beth levine: michelle definitelycontinued the design out onto the terrace, soit would feel like part of
the room and part ofthe apartment. michelle slovak: bethhad a specific wish list for the space. we needed a multipurposeroom-- not only as a home office. we needed an extra bedroom. beth levine: when we found thescreen, that was one of the pieces that we reallyflipped for. it also is very useful in thespace because when somebody
sleeps over on the sleeper sofa,we can pull the screen over and give themsome privacy. some of the pieces were thingsthat we already owned. she was really willing to workwith us in terms of not over-designing. michelle slovak: when we gotto accessorizing, i didn't want it to be, oh, well, let'sgo out and buy things. it should be, start withthings that you love. you have to edit whenyou do accessories.
beth levine: the roosterthat's on there was my grandmother's. and it's not a particularlyvaluable piece, but it just reminds me of her. definitely some old familypictures, and some pieces that we've bought whenwe've been away. it was great that michelle laidout the room so that the desk is in front of the window, with the view that's really important to us.
over time, michelle and i havedeveloped a sense of trust. i've used her now forsome other projects. it's very helpful, when you'rebusy, to have somebody that you feel can filter througha lot of the things that are out there. i don't think i could'veaccomplished the look and the warm feel of the spaceon my own. i would have tried, but idon't think i would've accomplished it like this.
michelle definitely gave ourspace a feeling of home. and i take a deep breath everytime i walk in and feel like i've escaped from the busynessof our schedules. tracy metro: are you asocial media darling? do you like to hang out onfacebook, twitter, pinterest, or even tumblr? if so, you can check us outat all those places. or of course, you can just clicksubscribe right here to see what we've got going on.
